Out with old and in with the new. Happy 2010

Well, The WHC has been a great experience thus far. What a great 2009 was had by all, all members put on quite a display on some challenging terrain. I, for one, feel blessed that the "CLUB" got off it's feet literally. So here is to making 2010, the best year yet, in terms of hiking, and everything else.

The last hike of 09' was a treat, the numbers were a bit off, but the passion was wonderful. Dan, Susie, Kevin, Kurt Brencher, and Jelly made the most of the last trek of the year as did Oscar Wilde and Barkley. New terrain beckoned, so the club started the hike at the beginning of the bike trail in South Wellfleet. The dogs were leashed temporarily as we started the journey down Lecount Hollow Road, and off into the woods we went. We found an old fire road that led us into a great albeit quick single track route that led us to one of Wellfleet's highest dunes. As we stopped to admire the view, a single seal was spotted. From that point we walked along the ridge to the Marconi beach parking lot. I just kept thinking what a beautiful place we live. From Marconi's parking lot we dropped into more unchartered water's for this particular club, The Atlantic White Cedar Swamp. Clearly a nice trek, made funnier by Barkley's attempt to skate around on the ice. From the Swamp, we connected to a trail that led us to back to the Cape Cod Rail Trail. As the last 1.2 miles of this trip, we were greeted by some nice driving rain, all the more to our satisfaction. Total distance = 4.2 miles. Brisk but brillant. Bye 2009

Hello 2010.

The fist walk of the new year, Today's walk was all about shaking out the cobweb's of another New Year's blowout held by Traci & Macgregor Hay, Happy Anniversary to you guys . Sorry about the porch thing btw. The only hikers today were Randy, Jelly, and Kevin

We were inspired by Jelly, let's get this out of the way now, Jelly, was the unheralded MVP, if not by pure inspiration only. I am nicknaming him the motivater. He issued the statement simple and clear, " Let's start this new year out right" and he also casted this nugget "Danny, told me last night that if we wanted to walk, let's go to the Provincetown Monument and run up and down the stairs, army style" I only wished I could have heard that gem live. After issuing the commands, off into the woods we went, Bound Brook Style. Into the woods, onto the beach, back to the woods, and finally finishing strong. Toatal time 1 hour, distance about 4.2 miles again,*** Today's hike was short on words, the pace was fast though, and offered time for some great reflection. Proud to be amember of the WHC today.

**** Toatal guestimate of distance.

Happy New Year
